Tenuta Schifanoia is an historical 1500 acres private estate just 30 minutes from Florence. The estate was owned by the Medici Family back in 1350 and surrounds a 1000 years old Convent called Bosco ai Frati, where Renaissance Masters like Donatello, Michelozzo, and Fra Angelico left marks of their spectacular talent.
With its size and beauty, Tenuta Schifanoia represented one of the Medici's most relevant properties in Tuscany together with Il Castello del Trebbio and Il Castello di Cafaggiuolo, which are now Unesco World Heritage sites.
The Schifanoia Estate stretches along the Anguidola river and includes a total of twelve historical Farm Houses from the 1700s distributed across the hills all overseeing the Schifanoia valley. We have renovated many of these farm houses into Luxury Tuscany Villas while maintaining their history and beauty. Starting in 2021, a handful of the Schifanoia Villas are available for rent.
Tenuta Schifanoia is also a 1500 acres fully-functioning organic farm which we operate year around with a dedicated staff of capable farmers and agronomists. We produces sunflower seeds, wheat, chickpeas, spelt, and alpha alpha. All products are grown without the use of any fertilizers, pesticides or irrigation. Our products are used as basic ingredients for flour, oil, and pasta by many well renowned food brands.
Nestled within the enchanting grounds of Tenuta Schifanoia, the Bosco ai Frati Convent stands as a testament to centuries of rich history, art, and spiritual significance. Founded around 600 A.D. by the noble Ubaldini family, this sacred site has witnessed cycles of habitation and abandonment, each chapter leaving an indelible mark on its storied walls. Its connection to St. Francis of Assisi, the flourishing period supported by the influential Medici family, and the artistic treasures, including Beato Angelico's renowned "La pala di Bosco ai Frati," contribute to its profound cultural legacy. Today, the convent, with its serene surroundings, invites visitors to explore the captivating interplay of history and spirituality in this timeless sanctuary at Tenuta Schifanoia.
Tenuta Schifanoia and its ancient oak trees have been a prime ground for truffle hunting for many centuries. Thanks to a unique balance of soil, humidity, and woodland, our Estate has produced both black 'Scorzone' Truffles as well as the very precious 'White' Truffle for many centuries. We work actively with a team of local Truffle Hunters and their cheerful dogs to preserve this long standing tradition and the wonderful truffles it generates.
Our Villas come with Staff for daily cleaning of common areas, kitchen, bedrooms and bathrooms. We are here to take care of the boring stuff so you can focus on what matters.
